Piccadilly Line Upgrade – Design Library

Key Facts

Lendlease and TfL appointed EFA Engineering to explore the possibility of implementing a common-item design library that can be utilised on the Piccadilly Line Upgrade to achieve savings in repeat design costs.

Our team worked with the client to:

  • Gain an appreciation of the repeatable items that should be targeted to achieve savings due to the quantities involved by reviewing BoQ’s and other relevant sources of information.
  • Undertake fact-finding by liaising with the existing programme team to understand:
  • What initiatives or previous work already exist that can be built upon.
  • The critical path and how this impacts the viability of implementation.
  • Existing approval processes and the most appropriate way to adapt them to incorporate a common item design library.
  • Identify opportunities and threats associated with the implementation of the library.

A complete report was produced and delivered to the client with the estimating time, effort, and associated cost of implementing a common item design library and the potential savings that could be achieved by its implementation.
